The General Assembly is "the highest governing body of [our] church and is representative of the unity of the synods, presbyteries, sessions, and congregations of the Presbyterian Church (USA)." (Bk. of Order G-13.0100) The four commissioners and the advisory delegate from the Presbytery of WV join in General Assembly with the ministers, elders, and young adults commissioned by the other 172 presbyteries throughout the country. They convened on July 3 in Minneapolis where they worshiped, studied, deliberated, and made decisions about how they believe God is calling the PCUSA to bear witness to Jesus Christ in the years ahead. The WV Presbytery commissioners are Elders Susan Eason (Morgantown) and John Arbuckle (Edgewood), and Ministers Paul Romine (St. Albans First) and Mary Jane Knapp (Ripley). Our Young Adult Advisory Delegate (YAAD) is Lucy Swecker (Mill Creek), a rising senior at WV Wesleyan College. Frank Mansell and Stephen Melton attended the Assembly as staff members in support of our commissioners and YAAD, and to be informed of matters that are of importance to our presbytery. Pray for all the commissioners and YAAD’s that they discerned God’s will for the church. At the Quadrant Meetings of the Presbytery in September we will receive reports from those who represented us.
