'Tis the Season
October has become the season dedicated to Pastor Appreciation, not only in the PCUSA but in other denominations as well.
For many congregations, October is also the time for launching the Stewardship season of the church year.
In reality, neither pastor appreciation nor stewardship should be limited to just a season, but rather should become a year-round focus for all of us. Both have to do with gratitude – gratitude for the pastoral leadership of the congregation and gratitude for all the gifts which have been so abundantly provided.
The Presbytery is blessed with wonderful pastoral leadership, both in our congregations and in the work of the presbytery and the connectional church, and the people God is calling us to be. The Presbytery is also blessed with the generosity of the members of the congregations and the contributions of financial support to the work God is calling us to do.
As we approach the “season of Thanksgiving” let us remember that we are called to “rejoice and give thanks…” Say a good word to your pastor and family! Support the mission and ministry of your congregation and the whole PCUSA as you make your commitment of your tithes and offerings! And let the spirit of generosity and thanksgiving be a continuing season!
