Recently, 17 members of First Presbyterian Church of Bluefield, ranging in age from 7 to 77, donned scrub hats, shoe covers and aprons to participate in a Heaven Sent Ministries Hunger Challenge. As a team, they assembled nutrient-enriched food packages that are headed to South Sudan to help feed the remote areas of that nation.

A combination of chicken broth granules, dehydrated veggies, high-dense protein powder and rice, weighing between 398-402 grams, were sealed in packets for shipping. Bluefield’s crew packed 10 cartons, 36 packets each, which will produce 2,160 meals when hot water (most likely heated by campfire) is added.

This is the seventh time First Presbyterian, Bluefield, has participated in a Heaven Sent Ministries Hunger Challenge. Each event enlists 1,000 volunteers during the weekend to address needs throughout the world.

“We at First Presbyterian enjoy doing these events. They are a fun-filled and gratifying team-building experience that enrich the lives of thousands overseas in remote villages,” one participant said.
