6-8 p.m. May 30-31 at Kanawha United Presbyterian Church, Charleston
In lieu of traditional Vacation Bible School, Bream Memorial and Kanawha United Presbyterian churches in Charleston will kick off the summer with Music Alive! from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, May 30-31, at Kanawha United, 1009 Virginia St. E. 
 
All churches and their congregants are invited to join either or both nights for free intergenerational music education workshops for all ages. These including a hymn sing, psalm exploration, instrument petting zoo (try a horn, guitar, violin, bell and more), organ and singing demonstrations and mini recitals.  
 
Leaders include soprano Ashley Dannewitz, Adjunct Professor of Voice at West Virginia State University; Christopher Engel, Director of Music and Organist at Kanawha United; Dr. Mark Hornbaker, Academy of Music Director and Master of Music at First Presbyterian Church of South Charleston; and Mark Parsons-Justice, Director of Music and Worship Arts at Bream Memorial. 
 
The program will close with a community drum circle on Thursday evening, led by Drum n Fun. All instruments and voices are welcomed and encouraged, especially noisemaker crafts created by children and others in the crafts workshop. It will end promptly at 8 p.m.
